iPhone or iPad users: Important information about iOS 11 update
On Tuesday, September 19th, Apple released its long-awaited phone and tablet software update, iOS 11. Shortly after the release, Apple published a support document stating that users of Microsoft hosted email will receive an error when trying to send, reply, or sync emails when using the native Mail app (Mail.app) on Apple phones and tablets. Users running iOS 9 or 10 are not affected. Microsoft also quickly released a statement that confirmed the bug and also confirmed that the Outlook app for iPhone and iPad is not affected by the update.
So, what should you do?
Firstly, if you have not downloaded the iOS 11 update for your iPhone or iPad, you should wait. Wait until the bug is resolved before installing. You may hear about the repaired upgrade in the news, but if not, you can check here for an update with a release date after 19, Sept 2017.
If you have already downloaded the update and are unable to send emails, we recommend you download and install the free Microsoft Outlook app from the Apple store onto your iPhone and/or iPad. If you need assistance configuring it, or just have questions, our help desk can walk you through the process. Call 541-779-4777, or visit https://tekmanagement.com/support/
Along with the email bug, this upgrade has the potential to impact many of the apps you run. For some time now, Apple has been warning iPhone and iPad users that legacy 32-bit applications may slow down their device. The upgrade to iOS 11 will make that more likely. You can find out which applications will not run on iOS 11 by clicking Settings > General > About > Applications.
A little more on the technicalities of who is affected. The Microsoft statement states that iOS 11 “is not compatible with Outlook.com, Office 365, or Exchange Server 2016 running on Windows Server 2016”. Apple reports: You might see an error message that says “Cannot Send Mail. The message was rejected by the server.”
